There is a new California Excise Tax of %11 on Firearms and Ammunition starting July 1, 2024
Before you purchase any firearm online or plan to have any firearm sent into the state of California you must first confirm the following:
- Confirm that the firearm and all related accessories are California legal and compliant. NO “assault weapons”, off roster handguns (Unless the customer is a Law Enforcement Officer), short-barreled rifles or shotguns or high-capacity magazines.
- Confirm that the Firearms Dealer that will be receiving the firearm is California Compliant with a CFLC# and is OK for you to use them as a dealer.
Once you have confirmed these 2 requirements, you can contact Deschutes Gunwerks to purchase the item and make the proper arrangements to have it shipped into California.
It is $100 for the first firearm for FFL Transfers into California. Additional Firearms are $50 each. The $100 DOES NOT include the state DROS Fee, Tax, or any other incidentals.
For a private transfer, you must physically come to Deschutes Gunwerks to make the proper FFL Transfer arrangements and by providing us with a few things BEFORE shipping the firearm.
- We will need your contact information, and the receiving persons contact information.
- We will need the firearm specific information, and verifying it is California Compliant.
- We will need the receiving FFL Dealer information including the CFLC# and an email address.
- It is $100 per firearm for FFL Transfers into California. Additional Firearms are $50 Per Firearm. The $100 DOES NOT include the state DROS Fee, Tax, or any other incidentals.
Once we have this information, we can proceed with sending out our FFL information for the purpose of the Transfer.
You may ask “Why does a California transfer cost $100?” Honestly, because I don’t want the hassle with the state and their scheme of regulations/liability.
Lastly, Please inquire about California LEO Discounts.
